'Salford Love Psalm' was inspired by Nat Lort-Nelson's time growing up in Manchester, England. The song explores the moody and edgy environment of Manchester in the late 90s through dark driving bass alongside gritty, layered guitar and synth ambiance. At the song's core though it reveals a more simple desire of young romance and adolescent Lort-Nelson aiming to impress the goth girls in his social circles.
